Conceptual understanding of emergency medical services (EMS) is critical for pre-hospital
patient care. The residency review committee recognizes this by requiring EMS training
for all emergency medicine (EM) residents. However, based on an alumni survey and
assessment of current residents, we found inadequate residency education and preparation
for EM physicians assuming a leadership role in EMS. Our primary objective was to
implement a novel approach to EMS education to bridge this knowledge gap. The secondary
objective was to assess perceived competency for EMS after curriculum implementation.
