Traumatic Tension Gastrothorax and Pneumothorax

Tension gastrothorax is a rare condition usually seen in association with congenital diaphragmatic hernias and, occasionally, in blunt trauma. The diagnosis requires a high level of suspicion due to the significant morbidity and mortality that results from a missed or delayed diagnosis. Likewise, iatrogenic injuries can result if it is misdiagnosed as a pneumothorax. We report a young man who developed both a tension gastrothorax and pneumothorax after blunt trauma.
