A 45-year-old Hispanic male presented to the emergency department (ED) complaining of dysuria and “red chunks” in his urine for the past week. The patient actually reported he was urinating “red peppers” when he ate spicy food so he changed his diet. He was treated for perforated diverticulitis at another hospital a few weeks before presentation. On arrival, the patient's blood pressure was 120/70 mm Hg, heart rate was 86 beats/min, respiratory rate was 15 breaths/min, oxygen saturation 98% on room air, and temperature was 36.3°C. Physical examination revealed a benign abdomen, without focal tenderness to palpation. His genitourinary examination was also normal.
