Due to increasing rates of antibiotic-resistant infections and adverse events, in
March 2015 the White House released a National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant
Bacteria by reducing inappropriate antibiotic use in the outpatient setting. The rate
of inappropriate antibiotic use that is amenable to reduction is unknown.
