Rhinovirus in Febrile Infants and Risk of Bacterial Infection

      Viral infection laboratory testing by means of direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) testing and viral cultures has been used to stratify the risk of bacterial infections in febrile infants. The newer respiratory virus polymerase chain reaction (RVPCR) is a more sensitive test for detecting respiratory viruses. RVPCR also allows for the detection of a greater number of viruses including human rhinovirus (HRV).
